I stopped flushing my chainsaw's bar oil holes with gas and started using a $4 pipe cleaner, and it fixed my oiling problems in a week
Everyone on the crew swears by blasting the bar oil holes with gas or carb cleaner when the oiler starts acting up, and I did that for years on my 261. Three weeks ago on a job in Bend my chain was smoking dry by noon no matter how much I cleaned it with gas, so out of frustration I grabbed a $4 set of pipe cleaners from the hardware store. I found packed sawdust and old oil gunk way up inside the oil channel that the gas spray never touched, and pulling it out with the pipe cleaner took about two minutes. The next day the bar ran wet all day and I have not had a dry chain since. I get why gas is fast, but it dries out the seals and breaks down the oil you actually want in there. Anyone else stopped using solvent on their oiler holes, or am I the only one late to this?
