Just heard a new guy call a pole saw a 'tree trimmer' and it took me back...

I was grabbing coffee and overheard a young guy at the next table telling his friend about his new 'tree trimmer' he got for his yard. He meant a basic pole saw. It made me think of my grandpa's old wooden-handled Silky from the 70s, all patched up with tape. Does anyone else miss when tools had more character, or is it just me getting old?

Tree trimmer" sounds like a fancy salon service, not a tool!

Wait, he called it a tree trimmer? That's wild. I get mixing up brand names sometimes, but that's like calling a hammer a "nail hitter." It makes me wonder what other basic tool names are getting lost. My dad's old tools all had names worn right into them from use, not some weird marketing term.

Oh man, that hits home. My dad had this old hatchet he'd re-handled himself, the wood was so smooth from his hands. Everything now feels so... slick and samey. It's like the soul got machined out of them.
