My brand new climbing rope got a core shot on a simple removal yesterday

It was a basic pine takedown in a backyard, nothing crazy, but the rope must have rubbed on a sharp stub I missed. I had to finish the job with my backup line, which was a total pain. How do you guys check for hidden abrasion points when you're setting lines?

Did you run your hand over the whole trunk before setting the line, or just go by sight?

Feel your pain. Burned a brand new line last month on a stupid hidden nail.

That's the worst, a brand new line too. Was it buried in an old fence line or something? I've pulled pieces of decking out of chip piles that were full of them. Makes you want to run a metal detector over everything first.
