Rant: my brand new rope got shredded on a single climb
Bought a 150 foot Yale kernmantle last week and a jagged branch edge cut through the sheath on my first real job in Bellingham. Had to cut off 20 feet and splice a new eye. Anyone else had bad luck with new ropes from a specific batch?

Did you inspect the tree branch before you started? I learned the hard way too, now I always run my hand over the bark and feel for hidden snags. For jagged stuff, I wrap a piece of old carpet or a thick dog leash pad right where the rope runs over it. And if the rope is new and that sensitive, maybe call the manufacturer to see if there was a bad batch - they might swap it out if you push.

Yeah, I learned the hard way too, it sucks when you think you've checked everything.

You ever had a branch look smooth but feel rough when you actually run your hand over it?
