TIL a topped silver maple in my neighbor's yard grew 6 feet of weak sprouts in 18 months while my pruned one added 8 inches of solid wood
Watched both trees since the crews came through in spring 2023, and his looks fuller but every limb is a half inch of green off a stub. Mine cost $400 more for proper cuts but hasn't dropped a branch through two wind storms, so which one actually saved money? Curious what you all tell homeowners who just want it short fast.

Cut my dad's maple the same way, saved cash, then spent it all replacing his fence.
