Traded my chainsaw for hand saws on old oaks, best call I made
After 12 years running a saw full time, I switched to mostly hand pruning on the big oaks in Portland. I got tired of the noise and the constant chain sharpening, plus the clients were nervous about the vibration. Picked up a 24 inch pruning saw and learned to work slowly, cutting from the top down with proper rope work. It took me about 6 months to get my timing down, but now I can do a 40 foot crown reduction without ever firing up the motor. The cuts are cleaner and I catch way more decay pockets before they become issues. Has anyone else made the switch for residential work, or am I just old fashioned now?
