Tried a new root barrier fabric on a big maple removal job
I was clearing a stump for a client in Portland and decided to try that heavy duty woven poly stuff instead of my usual roll. I cut a 6 foot by 6 foot square and laid it down before backfilling. Two months later, I came back and the new shoots were already pushing right through it, which I really didn't expect from a fabric that thick. Has anyone found a barrier that actually holds up against a determined silver maple?

Maybe you just got a bad roll or something. I've used that same fabric for years and it's always worked fine for me.

Bad rolls and me go way back, reminds me of my luck with dice games. Could totally see the universe sending me a dud roll of fabric just to keep the streak alive. My last project had a weird stiff patch right in the middle, fought with it for an hour. You're probably right that it was just a fluke in the manufacturing. Guess I'll give it another shot and hope the next roll behaves.

Yeah, the universe does love a good running joke (usually at our expense). Samflores probably got the one good roll they made that year.
