Went to a city park cleanup and found a tree that was basically held together by zip ties

Over in Riverside last Saturday for a volunteer day. Somebody had wrapped like 15 industrial zip ties around a split maple trunk. Looked like it had been there for years. Who does that and walks away? Have you ever seen a tree repair that made you just stop and stare?

Wow, honestly I used to think zip ties were a quick fix but now I see they can actually hold a tree together.

Right? I saw a video online where a guy used zip ties to brace a split tree trunk after a storm and it held for like three years before he finally took them off. I did something similar with a big maple in my backyard after a heavy snow snapped a branch off but left it hanging by a strip of bark. Zip tied that thing back in place and it actually healed over the next couple seasons. It felt dumb at first but the tree is still standing and you can barely see the scars now. So yeah, they can handle way more than people give them credit for.
