A 2018 F-150's blend door actuator failed right after I finished a full cabin air filter swap, making me wonder if I caused it.

I'm debating whether it was just a crazy coincidence or if something about the filter housing removal process can stress those plastic gears, so has anyone else seen this happen right after a simple filter job?

That plastic is so brittle, could just be the vibration from pulling the housing loose finally did it in.

Yeah keith_bennett, that brittle plastic probably got weak from heat cycles over time.

Man, that stinks. Same thing happened to me on my 2012 Explorer. Did the filter swap, easy enough, then the next day the passenger side temp just went haywire. Took me forever to figure out it was the blend door. Pulling that housing out does put a weird amount of torque on the whole dash. Feels like you're wrenching on everything but the filter itself. I bet your actuator gears were already cracked from years of heat, and that final wiggle just did them in. Solidarity, man.

But that vibration theory makes sense... you're pulling and pushing on the whole dash structure to get that housing out. Did you have to use a lot of force to get the old filter out? I'm wondering if a stuck filter made you jerk things around more than usual and that last bit of stress was the final straw for those old gears.
