Appreciation post: The salvage yard in Tacoma that keeps old shop manuals organized by year

I was at a place called Pull-A-Part in Tacoma yesterday looking for a door panel, and they had a whole shelf of factory service manuals sorted by make and model year. The guy there said they keep them for mechanics who need wiring diagrams or torque specs on the spot. Has anyone else found a yard that does this, or is it just a lucky find?

That's a great find! My local yard has a binder at the entrance with photocopied pages for common models, mostly just engine bay diagrams. Having the full factory manual sorted like that is next level. It saved me a ton of time once when I needed the exact bolt pattern for a transmission mount.

Actually, those binders are usually just wiring diagrams.

Gotta disagree with you there corap, the binders I've seen at yards usually have a mix of electrical and mechanical data including torque specs and fluid capacities.

The binder at my local spot has torque specs for suspension components too, which corap21 might find useful. It's not just wiring, they actually include some critical mechanical data. That extra info turns a quick parts run into a proper repair session.
