Blew $60 on a 'lifetime' warranty battery - dead in 2 years

Guy at the parts counter swore by it. Said it would outlast my truck. Second winter hit and it wouldn't crank below 20 degrees. Anyone else find those warranties are just marketing fluff?

And they always say "pro-rated" in the fine print, but when you actually bring it back they hit you with some "testing fee" or only give you like 8 bucks credit... did they actually test yours or did they just try to sell you a new one on the spot?

Man, @calebc40 nailed it with that multimeter story, that's exactly the kind of shady stuff I ran into too. Tbh when I tried to warranty a battery last year they didn't even test it, just pointed at the fine print and offered me a coupon for $10 off a new one. Ngl it's basically a scam, they know most people will just pay up rather than fight over a few bucks.

Roll your eyes at that "testing fee" thing, @the_jamie. They hooked my buddy's multimeter up for 5 seconds, said "yep it's weak," and tried to sell him a $150 replacement before he even asked about the warranty. I get the aggravation but it's a battery, not a kidney. Winter kills them. Two years is a bummer but not exactly shocking. Lot of people act like a lifetime warranty means free batteries forever but the fine print just means lifetime of the battery, which is obviously shorter than your lifetime.
