Crank no start on a 2012 F-150 - coil pack or fuel pump? Here is what I did.
Last week I had a 2012 F-150 that just cranked and would not fire. I had to choose between swapping the coil packs or the fuel pump first. I went with the fuel pump since I heard it prime real quiet (you know, that usual hum was missing). After dropping the tank and putting in a new pump, she fired right up on the first try. Cost me about $180 for the pump and a few hours of my Saturday. Has anyone else dealt with that weird half-priming sound before the pump totally dies?

Man that priming sound is like a ghost whisper when it starts going quiet. I had the same thing on a 04 Silverado last year, heard a little half hum then nothing, figured the pump was on its last leg. Dropping the tank is always a fun Saturday afternoon project, especially when you find out the previous owner used some kind of mystery glue on the straps.

Yeah that half priming sound is a dead giveaway. You caught it in time, I've seen those pumps leave people stranded in the worst spots.

Why do people always seem to use the strongest glue known to man on tank straps? I spent a whole afternoon with a pry bar and a grinder on my buddy's F-150, and we still ended up cutting the whole assembly out. At least you didn't have to deal with rusted bolts on top of that mystery glue, Silverados from that era are notorious for that combo.
