Dropped $600 on a high-end scan tool and it barely works on older cars

I bought an Autel scanner last summer thinking it would handle everything in my bay, but half the time it won't even connect to a 2008 Chevy. Spent three hours on a Subaru last week just trying to read a simple ABS code and finally gave up. Anybody else find that these expensive tools are useless for anything older than 2015?

Used to think pricier meant better too, but that Subaru ABS code fiasco changed my whole mind.

The 2008-2010 Subaru Outback I had threw that ABS code too. Ended up being a bad wheel speed sensor on the rear passenger side, but the dealer wanted to replace the whole module for $1,200. I found a used sensor online for 40 bucks and swapped it myself in about 30 minutes. Just goes to show that paying more doesn't always mean you're getting a better fix or even a better part. Always worth getting a second opinion from a independent shop before you hand over a huge chunk of cash for something like that.

Can't believe a 2008 Chevy is "old" now, that's ridiculous.
