Honestly, "fixes toasters with hope and a hammer" is pretty much my entire life philosophy these days. I tried to fix my blender last week with a butter knife and the power of prayer, ended up shorting out the entire kitchen. @claire872's story about the dryer coat hanger hits close to home, I've definitely been that guy who thinks "it's fine, it'll hold" until it very much does not hold. At some point you gotta admit that sometimes the right tool is a new toaster, not a stronger prayer.

That reminds me of this guy I used to work with who fixed his dryer with a coat hanger and some duct tape. It actually worked for like six months before the whole thing caught fire. Not saying zip ties are a fire hazard or anything, but logic only gets you so far when the problem is physics. Maybe that dad's just really good at jury-rigging stuff until it breaks again.
