I switched from a basic 3/8 ratchet to a flex-head one for tight engine bay work and the difference in clearance was like night and day.

After struggling for years with a standard ratchet, I finally bought a flex-head model for $45 and it cut my time on a recent alternator job on a Ford Escape from what used to be a 90-minute fight down to about 30 minutes of actual work.

Yeah, that click to hold the angle is the real trick. My buddy was swearing at a bolt on his truck's starter until I lent him my locking flex-head. He said it was like suddenly having a third hand to keep the ratchet in place while he got the socket on. He bought one the next day.

Ever try a flex-head with a locking position? That click to hold the angle is a game changer when you need both hands free. Makes those tight spots way less frustrating.
