Moving my dad's truck from Arizona to Oregon showed me a real tool shortage

We drove his old Ford back home after he retired. At two different garages along the way, they were borrowing basic tools from each other. It seems like some places just don't have full sets anymore. If you're working on the road, maybe pack your own gear. I never thought I'd see that.

Wow, that's wild! Do you think it's a money issue for the shops, or just bad management? Makes you wonder what they'd do if something really major came in.

My old shop was like that, always missing the right tool. I started keeping a basic set of my own stuff in my locker, just a few wrenches and a pry bar. It saved me so many trips across the bay to ask the other techs. The shop never bought the stuff, but at least my jobs didn't take forever. Kinda sad you have to do that, but it works.

Ever see a shop trying to do a brake job without a full set of sockets? Honestly, it's getting common. I've watched guys borrow basic pry bars or the right size wrench for a caliper bolt. It turns a twenty minute job into an hour long mess because they're running next door. Makes you wonder what else they're missing for bigger repairs.

Disagree, sometimes it's just tight shop space. @karenb97 could be right about the money thing too.
