Showerthought: a 30 year guy at the shop called my torque wrench technique 'guesswork with extra steps'
I was doing head bolts on a 2016 Civic last Tuesday and just kind of clicking the wrench until it felt tight, and he stopped me and said 'that is guesswork with extra steps.' I switched to doing the whole sequence in three passes at 25, 50, then full spec and my comeback rate on head gasket jobs went way down. Any of you get called out early in your career like that, and what did it actually change for you?
