Switched to a torque wrench after a shop owner yelled at me
I used to just hand-tighten lug nuts on customer cars, thinking it was fine since I had good arm feel. Last spring at a shop in Phoenix, the owner grabbed my arm mid-job and said 'You're gonna kill someone with that loose junk.' Now I torque every single nut to spec, and I still wonder if the old way actually caused any damage I missed.

Wait, you were hand-tightening lug nuts on customer cars and thought that was okay? That shop owner had every right to yell at you bro, that's terrifying.

Hand tightening lug nuts on customer cars? Is that even real right now? I can't wrap my head around how someone thinks that's acceptable for a paying customer's vehicle. A gentle hand tighten might work for a bicycle, but not for a two ton hunk of metal flying down the highway. Did this person never watch a single YouTube video or read a single manual about tire changes? My heart dropped just reading that.

Man, the real issue is nobody taught him the right way.
