That YouTube DIY guy nearly ruined a customer's engine
Overheard a customer at the counter talking about following a YouTube video to replace their timing belt. They skipped the crankshaft seal because the guy said "it's optional." I spent 20 minutes explaining why that's a $2000 mistake waiting to happen. Any of you guys have to fix jobs started by internet videos?

Dude, I watched a video where a guy insisted you can rebuild a transmission with just a screwdriver and a hammer. Three days later I was calling a real shop to fix my driveway art project. Some people really should put down the camera and pick up a manual.

My own truck's timing belt is held together with prayers and my questionable YouTube skills, so I'm definitely not judging from a high horse here. But man, skipping that seal is like trusting a YouTube chef who says "undercooked chicken is optional.

@pat781 did you actually trust a YouTube chef after that chicken thing or learn your lesson?
