Vent: my old boss said never trust a torque wrench that lives in a truck box, and he was dead wrong
Back when I was at a shop off Lamar in Austin, my lead guy Rick told me never to trust a torque wrench that rides around in a truck because the bouncing wrecks the spring. I believed him for 6 years and always grabbed the shop's $240 Snap on for head bolts, even on mobile jobs. Then a cal job on a Subaru last month made me check my old $60 beam wrench that has been in my box since 2019, and it was off by 3 ft lbs at 80. The fancy shop wrench was off by 9. So what actually kills a torque wrench, because now I am rethinking every tool I have ever left in the truck overnight.
