Walked through a Pep Boys in Tulsa and counted 6 techs standing around with no work
Stopped at the Pep Boys off I-44 in Tulsa last month to grab a wiper blade and I swear I stood at the counter for 15 minutes while the phone rang and nobody picked it up. There were 6 guys in the bay, two of them just leaning on a lift scrolling their phones with a car up in the air behind them. The service writer told me they were booked out 9 days for anything more than an oil change, but the bays looked half empty to me. I get it, parts shortages and diag time eat up the clock, but if you are telling customers you can't get them in for a week and a half while your crew is standing around, that is a scheduling problem, not a demand problem. My old lead guy would have thrown a ticket at somebody's chest before he let that happen. We wonder why people take their cars to the dealer and pay double when the indy lot looks like a hangout spot. Anybody here run a shop with a similar problem and figure out how to keep the bays moving without running guys into the ground?
Six guys in the bay and a nine day wait? That math does not add up at all. Booking people out a week and a half while half the crew is on their phones is wild.
