Warning: that 'free brake check' offer at the mall cost me a customer

Overheard a guy at the diner telling his buddy about a quick lube place. They told him he needed $800 in brake work immediately. He brought it to my garage for a second look. His pads were at 50%, rotors were fine. Now he thinks all mechanics are scammers. How do you rebuild trust after someone gets that scare tactic?

Hate hearing stories like that. It makes it so much harder for the honest shops. You just have to show them, not tell them. Pull the wheel off right in front of them, point at the pad thickness with your finger, and explain what "actually worn out" looks like. Takes five minutes but proves everything.
