A chat with our new sales lead changed how I see data sync
I was talking with our new sales lead, Sarah, about why some deals fall apart late in the cycle. She said, 'Our reps spend 20% of their time just checking if the data in Salesforce matches the demo account.' That hit different because I always saw data sync as a back-end thing. Now I'm looking at our sync logs, and she's right, there are gaps every few days. It's not just a tech issue, it's a real sales blocker. How are other teams handling this to keep sales and systems data in lockstep?

Oh, the classic "trust but verify" method where sales has to do the verifying... because the system sure isn't. That's not a data sync, that's a trust fall where the tech team just walks away. Bet those logs look like a map of Swiss cheese, all holes and no substance. Makes you wonder if the real sales blocker is just the sheer time spent playing detective.

Honestly, I used to think it was just a minor tech headache too. But seeing how much time our team wastes double-checking stuff in two different systems, it's a real problem. Tbh, we started having a quick stand-up every morning just to call out any data mismatches we spot.

Feels like every app needs its own babysitter now.

3 different tools we use at our shop and every single one has some kind of data that the other two claim never existed. Spent 15 minutes yesterday trying to figure out why the inventory count for oak planks showed 47 in one system and 127 in the other. Turns out somebody typed a 1 instead of a 4 and nobody caught it for a week because we're all too busy babysitting the apps instead of, you know, working lol.
