Chat with a Salesforce admin made me rethink our data pipeline

He told me they spend 12 hours a week just cleaning up duplicate records from bad integrations. That's 3 full work months a year wasted on crap data flow. Anyone else auditing their syncs after hearing something similar?

Ugh don't get me started on duplicate data. I once spent a whole afternoon crying into my keyboard after finding out my "perfect" pipeline was actually just the same customer copied 4 times with slightly different email addresses. My bad integration was basically making me do the same work over and over and calling it progress. The funny part is I thought I was being smart with my cheap syncing setup but I was just digging my own data grave. Now I'm all about those unique ID matches too, feels like adulting with spreadsheets.

We put in a unique ID match on every sync after we found 15% of our leads were duplicates from a bad Zapier connection. It only took an afternoon to set up but saved us from scrubbing lists every Friday morning.

Dug my own data grave." Love that line. Did something similar last year - built a whole integration in a weekend, felt like a hero. Took me three months to realize every record was getting a new ID each time it touched our system. @leehall you got me thinking though. We finally found the problem - no unique match on contact email. Simple fix but man, the cleanup was brutal. Had to dedupe 40,000 contacts by hand. Never again.
