Dropped $900 on a data migration tool, saved our butts or wasted our cash?
We paid $900 for a migration platform to move 40k records off a legacy CRM, thinking it'd take a day. Instead it flagged 3k duplicates we'd have imported blind, but the learning curve ate two full weeks of our ops time. Was the money worth the headache, or would manual cleanup have been just as good for a smaller team like ours?

I get the frustration, but from where I sit, that $900 just saved you from importing a mess that would've taken way longer to untangle later. Two weeks of learning curve sounds rough, sure, but manual cleanup of 40k records with zero safety net could've easily eaten a month or more, plus the risk of human error slipping through. The real question isn't if the tool was worth it, it's if your team had the right expectations going in. Most migration tools aren't plug and play, they need setup time, and that's on whoever sold it to you if they promised a day. For a smaller team, the cost of a bad import can be way higher than the cost of the tool, especially when you're talking about customer data. Your mileage may vary, but I'd call that money well spent, just maybe budget for the training time next time.

My last migration skipped 900 records because someone had unplugged a server. Tools can't fix that.
