Rant: Our CRM integration just ate 47 contact records

Had a sync failure yesterday between Salesforce and our billing tool. Woke up to 47 duplicate contacts that merged wrong and nuked the original data. Spent 4 hours restoring from a backup at 2am. Has anyone else had a connector just silently corrupt data like that?

Silently corrupt data" is the scariest kind of bug, yikes.

Three years ago I had a database crash at a small gym I was helping out and lost about 600 client attendance records. I always thought crashes were the worst thing because you lose everything and it's obvious. But after talking to a guy who worked on accounting software, I realized silent corruption is way more dangerous. He told me about a bug that would quietly change a single digit in financial transactions, and nobody noticed for months until the totals didn't add up. That kind of thing can destroy a business slowly without anyone knowing, and that's honestly terrifying.

Yeah @jamief67 nailed it, silent corruption is way worse than a crash! Nobody even notices until the damage is done. One thing people don't talk about is how testing often only checks for big errors, never stuff like "copy 47 records but mix up 2 fields in each one.
