TIL my CRM data was a lie after a demo gone wrong at UserConf in Austin
I was at UserConf in Austin last month giving a live demo of our new onboarding flow. The whole thing crashed because my CRM had 30% duplicate contacts from bad imports. Two sides: do you spend time cleaning up old data or just build better checks at the point of entry? Which side have you fallen on?

Honestly, is doing one or the other really the right call here? I get why people want to fix the entry point so the mess stops growing, but if you already have 30% duplicates that stuff will keep haunting your reports and demos no matter how clean your new data is. Ngl, I think you gotta do both at the same time even if it stings a little. Spend a weekend cleaning up the worst of the old duplicates and then build those checks going forward. Ignoring the existing mess just means your CRM is always gonna be a little untrustworthy.

Ngl that 'little untrustworthy' part hits hard, it's like leaving a leaky pipe while you fix the faucet. Honestly it's the same pattern as ignoring expired stuff in your fridge while swearing you'll organize the new groceries better.
