Heard a competition guy say charcoal is the only real way to smoke meat and I gotta push back on that
I was at a cookout in Nashville last weekend and this pitmaster kept going on about how electric smokers are cheating, but I've pulled three racks of ribs off my Masterbuilt that beat his dry brisket any day - does anyone else think the snobbery around fuel types is getting old?

Ain't that just like every hobby, where gear matters less than confidence?

Ngl my buddy spent $600 on a "pro" fishing rod and reel combo, still got skunked three trips in a row while I was using a $40 Walmart special and pulling in bass. Same guy also bought a $2,000 camera for instagram pics and takes blurrier photos than my phone from 2019. Honestly confidence is like 90% of it, the other 10% is just not being an idiot with whatever you've got.

Yo, did you ever buy into the hype that expensive gear automatically makes you better? I used to think dropping more cash meant more skill, but your buddy proves that's total crap. It honestly changed my mind seeing how confidence and just knowing your cheap setup beats out fancy stuff every time. I had a friend with a top line rod who couldn't catch a cold, while I was hauling in fish with a broken reel from a garage sale. Gear matters a little, but it's mostly about not overthinking it and just getting out there.
