Showerthought: I just read that Tuffy Stone only started competing in his 40s

I was watching some old episodes of BBQ Pitmasters and looked him up, found that fact on a fan site. I mean, I always thought those guys were born with a smoker in their hands, idk. Does anyone else know other top pitmasters who started later in life?

Honestly it's just cooking meat outside, not like he became a brain surgeon at 45. Tbh most of those competition guys have regular day jobs anyway.

Exactly, the American Royal in Kansas City had over 500 teams last year and most were teachers or accountants. The real skill is managing fire and time, not just flipping burgers.
