So my firebox door hinge gave out right before a big cook

I was getting ready for a 12 hour brisket cook on my offset smoker last Saturday morning, around 5 AM. I went to close the firebox door after adding my first logs and the whole top hinge just snapped off, metal was all rusted through from the inside. The door was hanging by one hinge and I couldn't get a good seal at all. I had to think fast, so I grabbed some heavy duty steel wire from my garage and basically wired the door shut, wrapping it around the handle and the main body of the smoker. It looked janky as heck but it held the heat. The brisket still turned out okay, but I spent the whole day worried the wire would melt. Has anyone else had a hinge fail like that? What's the best way to fix it for good, short of welding a whole new piece on?

Honestly, that wire fix sounds risky. I'd drill out the old hinge and bolt a new one on with some high heat paint.

Yeah shane_park92 gets it, that's how my whole building's door handles look now.

It's crazy how everything seems to break right when you need it most...
