Tried a 24-hour smoke on a brisket in my Oklahoma Joe last month and the flat turned into shoe leather.

I learned that my pit's temp swings were way bigger than I thought, so now I'm looking for a good digital thermometer that can handle a long cook, any suggestions under $100?

My buddy had the same thing happen with his old stick burner. He ended up getting one of those Thermoworks Smoke units, the one with the two probes and the separate receiver you can carry around. I mean, it was a game changer for him because he could finally see the real temp swings while he was watching the game inside.

Thermoworks Smoke is a solid choice, it totally saved my last long brisket cook.

That remote range drops hard if you got brick or metal between it and the pit.

But what about the battery life on that remote unit? I've heard some guys say it drains fast if you leave it on all night. That could be a real problem for those super long cooks.
