Found a household item that saves me from buying new grips

Hairspray secures loose grips nicely, have you found other household fixes?

Oh man, hairspray is the absolute best trick! I used it on my old BMX grips years ago and they never budged again, even after getting soaked in the rain. That dish soap method left my hands a sticky mess halfway through a ride. I tried the rubber band trick too, but found it made the grip feel lumpy. For a simple household fix, that aerosol can is hard to beat.

Yeah I've never liked the dish soap trick, it always gets slippery again after a few rides. EmmaM89 has a point with the tape though. Honestly, hairspray is still the best household fix, it grips like glue when it dries.

My brother's mountain bike grips were always slipping until we tried wrapping a few rubber bands around the bars first. That trick works for tools too, like putting a layer of electrical tape on a hammer handle before the grip goes on. I've also used a bit of dish soap mixed with water to slide grips on, and once it dries, they stick tight. For a more permanent fix, a dab of super glue under the edge can seal loose ends without buying new ones. These hacks have saved me a bunch of money on replacement parts over the years.

Hot take: Dish soap is a TERRIBLE idea. When you said "once it dries, they stick tight," that has NEVER been my experience. It stays slick forever. Hairspray is the REAL household winner, just like sean51 said. It slides on wet, then dries totally locked in. I tried the super glue trick once on a loose end and it just made a brittle, messy spot that cracked later. For tools, sure, tape works, but for bike grips? It's hairspray or nothing.
