Spent two hours on a simple brake squeal that turned out to be a tiny rock
Had a customer bring in a gravel bike with a front brake that screamed like a banshee. I figured it was just contaminated pads, so I cleaned the rotor with alcohol, sanded the pads, and bedded them in. The noise came right back. I checked alignment, checked for a bent rotor, even swapped the pads for a new set. Nothing worked. After about two hours of this, I finally took the wheel off and held it up to the light. There was a single, tiny piece of gravel grit, maybe 2mm big, stuck in the pad material. Pulled it out with a pick, and the brake was silent. How does something so small cause such a huge problem? Anyone else ever lose a big chunk of time to a speck of debris?
