Buddy swapped to a belt drive and never looked back.

Guess your buddy missed dealing with oil and grime every couple thousand miles. A belt drive sure is quiet until you have to replace the whole frame because nobody makes the part anymore.

Ten thousand miles is a solid benchmark. I'd check your chain wear first, a stretched chain messes up everything else. Maybe a cassette swap is all you really need instead of a complete overhaul.
