I finally switched from a standard torque wrench to a preset one for bottom bracket installs and the difference is huge.

Oh man, preach! That click is so satisfying and you just know it's right. I fought it for years thinking my old beam wrench was fine. Total game changer for peace of mind, especially on carbon frames.

That click can trick you into a false sense of security, richard_nelson. A torque wrench is only as good as its calibration, and most home mechanics never check theirs. The beam wrench might be simpler, but it doesn't lie.
