Just crossed 2,000 bottom bracket press fits and I'm calling BS on the 'facing is always needed' crowd
I do these in a small shop in Vermont and hardly ever face a BB30 shell unless it's got visible corrosion or damage. Last season I pressed 47 cranksets without a single creak or binding issue. How many of you actually run into problems skipping the facing step?
Haven't tested this myself, but could a lot of the "you gotta face it" come from frames that were built with tolerances way looser than your Vermont shop sees? You might just be getting lucky with the quality of shells coming through your door.
