Rant: The difference in bottom bracket threads between a 2015 Trek and a 2022 model is wild. One took 10 minutes, the other took an hour.

Yeah, and the tooling changes are a pain too.

Tell me about it. Just got our team switched over to the new version control system last month. Half the build scripts broke, and the linter rules are completely different. Spent a whole week just fixing formatting on old code. Makes you want to just keep the old tools forever.
