Snapped a brand new chain on a $4k build Saturday

Had a customer's custom gravel bike on the stand, went to shift under load like an idiot, and the SRAM chain let go at the pin. Has anyone else had issues with the newer Flattop chains or was I just asking for it?

Have you tried blaming it on the SRAM flattop karma or are you just owning up to being a ham-fisted gorilla? Either way, that's a pricey oops.

i mean honestly if you saw me trying to put a chain together you would probably think i was wrestling an angry snake. my mechanic calls me the chain whisperer but not in a good way more like i whisper sweet nothings to it because its the only way i dont snap another one. i absolutely own up to being ham-fisted ive broken two chain tools already this year which is probably a record. but hey at least im consistent right? i break stuff and then i buy new stuff and the bike shop loves me for it. jana you might be onto something with the flattop karma though maybe i should just stick to 11 speed and leave the fancy stuff to people with steady hands.

honestly i think people get way too worked up over stuff like this. like yeah it sucks to break something expensive but its just a part of the hobby you know? lol. ive done dumber stuff to my bike over the years and honestly the sky didnt fall. plus with sram stuff sometimes its just bad luck with a weak link or whatever. i dunno maybe im just too laid back about it but i feel like everyone needs to relax a little. its a bike part not a life or death situation.
