Watched a guy at the shop yesterday try to seat a tubeless tire with a floor pump and no sealant, said he'd done it a dozen times before.

Used to think that was impossible, but saw it work once with a fresh tire and a perfect rim.

Dry seating is a huge gamble. That perfect rim and fresh tire combo is a one in a million fluke. Most of the time you'll just chew up the bead and still need lube to get it to pop. It's a good way to waste a new tire.
