I laughed at my mother in law for taking a $4 fish oil pill, then her cardiologist explained the actual label math
My mother in law in Sacramento takes this omega 3 pill every morning and I used to give her a hard time about paying $4 a pill when the grocery store kind costs $12 for a whole bottle. She made me sit down with her cardiologist's nurse for 20 minutes, who showed me that most cheap fish oil has almost none of the stuff your body actually uses, so you have to take 8 pills to match one decent one. When we did the math on the back of a receipt, her fancy pill came out cheaper per usable dose. I still think a lot of the supplement aisle is a money pit, but that one stung. Has anyone else gone down the rabbit hole on how they list doses on these bottles?
Eight pills to match one is a whole lot of horse pills to swallow every morning, and I'd want to see that lab testing myself before calling the $4 one a bargain. Most of the aisle is still a rip off, but the dose math on the back is the one part that actually matters.
