So I've been pretty anti-big pharma for years, always buying the name brand stuff because I figured the expensive stuff works better. Last winter I had this nasty cough that wouldn't quit, and my mom dropped off a bottle of some generic store brand syrup from the dollar store. I laughed at her and said no way I'm putting that in my body. After three weeks of hacking and spending $28 on a name brand bottle that barely helped, I finally gave in just to shut her up. That cheap generic stuff cleared my cough in two days flat. Now I'm wondering how much of my money I've wasted on fancy packaging and ads all these years. Has anyone else found a generic that worked way better than the expensive version for them?
I had a bad reaction to a generic blood pressure med from CVS last month, even though the name brand version worked fine for me for 2 years. Turns out my pharmacy switched manufacturers without telling me, and the filler ingredients were totally different.
