My mom swore by some generic cough syrup and I laughed... until I tried it

So I've been pretty anti-big pharma for years, always buying the name brand stuff because I figured the expensive stuff works better. Last winter I had this nasty cough that wouldn't quit, and my mom dropped off a bottle of some generic store brand syrup from the dollar store. I laughed at her and said no way I'm putting that in my body. After three weeks of hacking and spending $28 on a name brand bottle that barely helped, I finally gave in just to shut her up. That cheap generic stuff cleared my cough in two days flat. Now I'm wondering how much of my money I've wasted on fancy packaging and ads all these years. Has anyone else found a generic that worked way better than the expensive version for them?

Oh MAN does this hit home. I used to be the same way about allergy pills until I tried the generic and it worked BETTER than the $40 name brand.

Whoa wait, the generic actually worked BETTER? That's wild, I figured it was just cheaper filler stuff. Tbh you might have just changed my whole approach to buying meds.
