My pharmacist in Dayton handed me a 47 page receipt for one tiny tube of cream
Last Tuesday I picked up a tube of steroid cream the size of my pinky finger and the receipt printed out almost 4 feet long, 47 pages of fine print about side effects and coupons. The pharmacist just shrugged and told me the cash price was $340 but with the card it dropped to $18, which makes zero sense to me. Why does the same cream cost 19 times more depending on which piece of plastic I hand over?
47 pages for a tube of cream the size of your pinky seems a little hard to believe, idk. I mean I get that pharmacy receipts are stupid long with all the coupons and warnings, but 4 feet and 47 pages feels like the kind of thing that gets stretched for the story. And the 19 times price gap? That part is real, but it's not some big mystery. The cash price is fake, basically made up so the insurance "discount" looks amazing. Nobody actually pays $340 for that cream. It's a game they play with numbers. Maybe it's just me but I don't lose sleep over it, the system is dumb but it's not some hidden scam you cracked.
