PSA: my mom's $4 generic switched makers in March and her rash cleared up in 9 days
She's been on the same thyroid med for 11 years, fills it at the same pharmacy in Fort Wayne. Back in March the pill looked different, same shape but a different mark on it. She was getting red itchy patches on her arms for like 6 months before that and her doctor kept saying it was dry skin from winter. She didn't change anything else, same soap, same laundry stuff, same diet. Rashes went away in about 9 days after the refill with the new maker. I'm not saying one is bad and one is good, but the fillers are clearly not the same even if the label says the same drug. Anyone else notice a swap like this? How do you even find out who makes it before you open the bottle?
Used to figure all generics were the same thing in a different bottle, honestly. Then my dad got switched on his blood pressure pill and started getting a cough that his doctor said was a known side effect but he never had it on the other maker. That kind of opened my eyes. Fillers and binders really do matter for some people, even if the drug name on the label is the same. As for knowing who makes it, you can ask the pharmacy what maker they have in stock before they fill it, and the bottle usually has the name on the label too.
