Serious question, my pharmacist in Boise swapped my $180 script for a $15 generic and now I don't know what to think
I picked up my refill at the pharmacy on State Street last Tuesday and the tech slid a different box across the counter. Same drug name, generic label, and the price dropped from $180 to $15. I stood there for a second and asked her twice if it was really the same thing. She said it is and that my insurance pushes generics first.
Here is my problem. Two sides in my head. Side one says the brand name company was gouging me for years and the generic does the exact same job for 12 times less. Side two says why did it take a random refill for anyone to tell me a cheap version existed, and is it really the same stuff inside?
I took it for a week now and honestly I feel the same. But I keep wondering if I'm just talking myself into it. My neighbor works at a different pharmacy and she said the active ingredient is identical by law, so who do I believe here?
Is the generic switch a good thing or should people push back and ask for the brand? Has anyone gotten a surprise swap like this and how did it go for you?
