The $800 copay card that made my pharmacy bill worse
Got a savings card from the drug maker for my arthritis med, it cut my copay from $400 to $50 for two fills. Then the third fill came back at $750 and the pharmacist said the card maxed out, no warning from anyone. Called the company and they said I hit the yearly limit, which was buried in page 14 of the fine print. My doctor had no clue either, she just kept prescribing like nothing changed. Why do these programs exist if they only help for a few months, and has anyone found a way to actually track these caps before the pharmacy shocks you?
Yeah, same thing happened to me with my migraine meds. The copay assist covered me for exactly four months, then out of nowhere I owed $600 at the counter. The pharmacist just stood there like it was normal. I called the drug company and they read me the same fine print line, but nobody tells you when you're close to the cap. Now I just log into the manufacturer's portal every month and check the balance before I even go pick anything up. It's stupid that we have to do their tracking for them.
