Took 9 months and 4 appeals to get my mom's insulin covered, and the whole time I kept thinking this can't be how it works
My mom got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes back in January and her doctor put her on a specific insulin her old plan covered no problem. When she switched to a marketplace plan in February, they denied it and pushed her toward a 'preferred' version her doctor said wouldn't work for her. I spent 9 months calling, faxing prior auth forms, and filing 4 appeals, and we only got it approved after her endocrinologist's office in Columbus finally got a case manager involved. Has anyone else had luck going through a patient advocate group instead of fighting the insurance solo?
