A/B tested two landing page headlines and the boring one won by 40%

I run a small ecommerce shop selling leather goods out of Portland. For a month I tested a creative headline like 'Crafted for the Bold' against a straightforward one that just said 'Handmade Leather Wallets Starting at $45'. The plain headline got 40% more clicks and 22% more sales. It made me realize my customers just want to know what they're getting and the price. Has anyone else seen simple copy beat clever stuff in their own testing?

Wait 40% more clicks?! That is wild to me. I mean I get that people want to know the price and what they're getting, but I woulda bet my last dollar that 'Crafted for the Bold' would kill it. Maybe it's just me but I feel like leather goods are supposed to be a little fancy, you know? Like the whole point is the story behind the craftsmanship. But I guess most people just see a wallet and think 'how much is this thing?'

40% more clicks just for being boring is proof customers hate fun.

Right?! I bought a "bold" wallet once, regretted it immediately.

Yeah "Crafted for the Bold" sounds like a slogan for axe body spray not wallets.
