Dropped my Facebook ads manager for a plain email list of 400 people, and sales went up
Back in January I was burning $600 a month on boosted posts for my candle shop in Portland, getting likes but almost no orders. I made the call to kill the ads and put that same money into a simple email newsletter instead. My open rate sits around 41 percent and I get 3 to 5 orders every send, which never happened with the boosted stuff. I think the ads were just renting attention from people who never wanted candles in the first place. Anyone else ditched paid social for a list they actually own?
Back when I managed a record store we spent months buying ads in the local alt weekly because that was the playbook, and the owner finally tracked it and found out maybe two people a month ever walked in from those. The whole time our best days came from a clipboard signup at the counter and a monthly postcard to regulars, which cost almost nothing. So yeah, an owned list beats rented eyeballs almost every time.
