Had a chat with a local shop owner and now I'm rethinking my whole ad budget
I was talking to the owner of a bike shop here in Austin last Friday. He said he pulled all his Facebook ads and just focused on getting people to leave Google reviews instead. He said his sales actually went up by like 15 percent in 3 months without spending a dime on ads. It made me wonder if I'm overcomplicating things with all these paid campaigns. Has anyone else tried cutting their ad spend and doubling down on organic reputation building?

Oh wow, that's a really interesting story. My friend runs a small bakery here in town and she did sort of the same thing last year. She was spending like 400 bucks a month on Instagram ads and wasn't really seeing much from them. So she cut the ads completely and started asking every customer if they could leave a Google review right there at the counter. Within a few months her overall rating went up and people started finding her through search way more. She said her walk-in traffic went up noticeably and she never went back to paid ads.

Lol hold up, that 15 percent bump might not be all from dropping ads. Google reviews are great and all but they usually take a while to really kick in. Could be a coincidence or maybe his ads were just poorly optimized in the first place.
